There are 3 types of ballistics: Internal, External, and Terminal.

Internal Ballistics deals with what happens to the round while it is within the rifle.

External Ballistics deals with what happens to the round from the moment it exits the muzzle of the rifle until the moment of impact on a target.

Terminal Ballistics has to do with what happens to the round after the moment it hits the target.

A:
When a Marine is presented with multiple targets, the first two steps he or she must take before engaging are to assess and prioritize. Assessing the targets

Searching and Assessing is done for two reasons. One is to eliminate Tunnel Vision, or the complete and devoted attention to only one target or area of the battlefield. The second, is to view the battlefield for potential additional targets.
