A Return to the Classic NCO

Classic Marine Corps Knowledge

Thursday, July 28, 2010
Recently, there's been quite the shake-up in our command. Many people up top have left, and many more have trickled in. They didn't bother worrying about "filling in their predecessor's boots," they tossed them out, and replaced them with a bigger, meaner, harder pair. It's been a huge wake-up call for pretty much everyone in the command, to include myself.

I've decided, in order to help myself brush up on a few topics, to add some "classic" Marine Corps Knowledge. I'm still not sure on the format, but I'll play around with the sections a bit until it makes sense. For now, the big items are the NCO Creed, and the General Orders. Hope this helps anyone looking to study!

All the Small Things

Friday, May 28, 2010
There have not been any major updates to the website recently as I've been trying to update the information currently on the site. One example is the revamped Composite Score Calculator. There was some confusion about how inputs worked, and an error or two. I thank everyone for their e-mails suggesting changes and improvements!

Another has to do with orders and regulations. Unfortunately, rules are updated and put on the Marine Corp's Uniform Board website (and are considered official orders) on a regular basis without any actual changes being made to the Uniform Order itself (MCO P1020.34G). One example of this is how the regulation on hands in pockets was changed from only being forbidden while walking (as the language still stands in the MCO itself) to no hands in pockets at any time (as per the Uniform Board website).

One more quick note, if you haven't seen Terminal Lance, I strongly recommend it. One of the best web comics I have ever read, and is sure to get chuckles from all ranks.

Other than that, have a safe holiday weekend!

Enjoy!

Information You Should Know

Tuesday, February 9, 2010
Every once in a while I try to add a section to my Marine Corps pages. After all, the more information I make easily available here, the better it is for everyone who finds themselves needing valid references to back themselves up about orders and policies. This month I'll be adding all sorts of information for Marine Corps Marksmanship, which involves all the classes you'd take for Tables 1 & 2, as well as all the information about the actual execution of those tables.

Within that set will also be information about different weapons systems, as well as Pistol Qualification info.

What really drove this recent surge was my enrollment in the Coaches Course class (which I should be graduating from on Friday). So feel free to browse around and offer any suggestions to information you'd like to see. I'll be updating this section all month!

Enjoy!

Finally, A Real Calculator!

Wednesday, December 16, 2009
So I'm pretty sure most of us Lance Corporal and Corporal Marines were getting pretty confused by the crazy scores the MOL Composite Score Calculator was spitting out. Turns out, after this recent batch of scores, that it really is way off.

So I set off on a mission to create a calculator that actually WORKS. Ét, voila! You will now find, under my Marine Corps tab over on the left, a calculator (albeit primitively designed) that will give you a completely accurate score. You have to do a little more figuring out than before, but I believe you'll find that this one has fewer bugs and is much faster and more convenient than the one on MOL.

I have no idea why the people running Marine Online haven't updated their program, but that's what us Enlisted Marines are built for anyway. Adapt and overcome. And so we have. Courtesy of LCpl Paul Burt and myself, we present the results to you!

Calculator!

Enjoy!
